First Italian Tree Cities of the World Meeting Held in Modena
On May 7, the city of Modena hosted the first Italian meeting of the Tree Cities of the World (TCOW) network, bringing together local administrations, technical experts, and urban green professionals from eight other Italian cities: Bergamo, Buttrio, Campobasso, Ferrara, Jesi, Matera, Padova, and Turin.
The event highlighted a shared vision that places citizens’ wellbeing and the role of trees and urban forests at the center of urban quality of life. It was also an important opportunity to celebrate all participating cities, welcome newly recognized cities—Bergamo, Buttrio, Campobasso, Ferrara, Jesi, and Matera—and acknowledge the long-standing commitment of Turin (celebrating five years of recognition) as well as Modena and Padova, both of which have participated in the programme for six consecutive years.
The meeting fostered a rich exchange of best practices and experiences, actively engaging representatives in discussions, proposals, and reflections on the future of the TCOW program—a great starting point, not a finish line. It also reinforced the shared commitment to strengthening and expanding the international Tree Cities network, for which AlberItalia serves as the national programme leader.
