Cities Across Mexico and Latin America Celebrate Tree Cities of the World Recognition in Puerto Vallarta

On May 29, local governments, technical experts, civil society organizations, and urban foresters from across Mexico and Latin America gathered for the Tree Cities of the World Forum. The "Urban Trees as Seeds of Resilience" conference offered a chance for attendees to exchange ideas on urban resilience, climate adaptation, and the responsible management of urban trees. The event was planned and coordinated by Reforestamos México, the national programme lead for Tree Cities of the World in Mexico, an increasingly important convener for the programme’s growing community across Latin America.

The City of Puerto Vallarta served as the local host, welcoming peers from across the region and demonstrating its own commitment to urban forestry, having been recognized by the Tree Cities of the World programme two years in a row.

The forum served as an important regional space for learning and celebration, with panels, technical discussions, and opportunities for municipal leaders to share practical experiences in strengthening green infrastructure and building more resilient cities.

A central highlight of the event was the Tree Cities of the World (or Ciudad Árbol del Mundo in Spanish) ceremony, where Mayors and representatives from local governments in Mexico and across Latin America were honored for earning the 2025 Tree Cities of the World designation. This year, 44 cities in Mexico and 23 additional cities across Latin America were recognized for meeting the programme’s five core standards, showcasing their commitment to healthier, greener, and more resilient urban communities.

Together, the forum and recognition ceremony underscored the power of the Tree Cities of the World network to connect cities, elevate local action, and inspire shared progress toward more livable and climate-resilient communities.
